3D Glasses
3D TV is on its way to us, the home consumer, and it
will not be too long before its a part of our living room
furnishings, just like LCD and plasma screens are right
now. Well, that's what the likes of Sony and LG and many
others besides, are planning for anyhow! We'll have to wait
and see if it actually does happen. There's absolutely no
doubt however, that the geeks and the 'techie' types will
be all over this TV like rashes on a babies bottom!
At this years (2010) Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas,
3D TV was as hot as the Motorola Droid, the iPhone and the up
and coming Google Nexus Smart Phone. So, that's going some!
Remember going to the movies when you were a kid and donning
a pair of those funky far-out 3D glasses? Maybe you saw Jaws
III or another of those movies that at the time were released
in 3D format. Those that are in the business of producing 3D
glasses a la the year 2010 are almost ready to start churning
them out like a bakery would hot pancakes on Shrove Tuesday!
They are obviously expecting demand to be high.
Right now though, 3D glasses are priced around the $150 US
mark, so this makes them out of range for most households with
any more than a couple of people. Imagine having a family of 4
kids and trying to share 2 sets of 3D glasses to watch the top
rated movie of the month. Its simply not going to happen!
However, like so many gadgets gone before, as demand begins to
rise so prices begin to tumble. And no doubt tumble they
will.
And I'm afraid that 3D glasses are not going to suit
everyone either. Not everyone is capable of wearing them for
long as its been found that some individuals have a tendency
for severe migraine after using the glasses for any length of
time. May just be a design glitch however. As technology
advances, so the problems are ironed out. And because there is
a lot at stake here, ironed out they will be!
Mind you, 3D glasses are not simply for watching the
Saturday matinee. Far from it! Obviously kids these days are
hot for video games. Hook up your home PC to the 3D TV and you
got yourself a fantastic gaming experience to be had by one and
all! And it will not be long (Sony's new 3D TV range has
already introduced it) before televisions will be fully Wi-Fi
capable and internet friendly. Thus no need to hook up to the
PC or laptop. Just switch on the TV and its all there and ready
to go.
Don't you begin to wonder (already) where this technology is
going to take us next? Although not entirely new (a very basic
form of 3D technology was around way back in the 1890's, would
you believe it?) its only now, in 2010, that the hardware is
more affordable and the processes involved in making 3D motion
pictures is now much less costly too. With the massive success
of the 3D presentations of the movie Avatar hitting the big
screens in December of 2009, you can't help but suspect that 3D
glasses and 3D TV, will be around for a long time to come!
